Little Man Cave Nursery Reveal - A Boho Desert Boy's Room

As we anxiously await the arrival of our little boy any day now, I’m finally ready to share our finished Little Man Cave Nursery! While traditionally I’ve seen most “Little Man Cave” themes incorporate bears and mountains, I wanted to put a California desert spin on the theme, focusing more on cacti and boho accents.

Read on for a description of the style, or scroll down and SHOP THE LOOK at the bottom!

I started with a neutral gray and white base for the room. With our light gray walls, gray wood floors, and white trim, I painted a fun geometric accent wall to give the room a little something extra. Then I balanced that with a neutral boho rug and crochet pouf.

Since our house is small and we needed to keep some extra sleeping space for guests, we skipped the traditional recliner/rocking chair and opted for a sofa bed that we could use if guests came over. The futon was spacious enough underneath that I was also able to hide some bins full of larger baby clothes that I won’t need for several months.

We chose a simple gray and white crib and added a rolling drawer underneath for storage, with a tribal arrow patterned crib sheet. Inside the crib I placed an adorable crochet fox and cactus next to a fun “Welcome to My Crib” pillow that I made. I also DIY-ed a boho cactus crib mobile that spins and plays lullabies.

I was initially going to make a plain round wood name sign like the ones all over Pinterest, but I decided that I wanted the room to still have a “kid vibe” because I feel that sometimes nurseries can end up looking too mature for a child. After all, it’s a kid’s room! It should have kid stuff! Therefore, I ended up making a wood cloud and cactus combo, where the cactus is a growth chart for our son to watch himself grow, and the cloud made the perfect canvas for a fun name sign.

Since we didn’t have room for a formal changing table, I opted for a small dresser with a changing tray on top. I covered the changing pad with a soft, light blue cover. I mounted a round mirror and some floating shelves above it, on which I placed some wooden toys, a plant, and a frame. My friend gifted me a cute little roped basket with brown leather handles that I turned into my diaper basket. I added some smokey blue blackout curtains to help the baby sleep, and I accented the room with a geometric arrow hamper for his clothes.

On the futon, I started with some light blue velvet-like pillows, which I topped with a cute fox-shaped pillow and a custom “Little Man Cave” pillow that I made. Next to the futon, I placed a small white and bamboo side table so that I could have a place for a small lamp and our Hatch + Sound Machine. To add some artwork, I picked up some 16″ x 20″ white frames and found some cute animal prints that matched the room’s theme.

Next to the futon I hung more floating shelves — this time, I used some with a ledge so that they could hold books and small items. I accented with a cute cactus clock and some toys, including a wood name puzzle that I made for my little man.
